Equine Therapy

"Spending time with a horse will bring you more solidly into full body presence than anything else I know.” -Kelly Clark (@umberdove)

Manito Life Center, a non-profit organization owned and run by Lisa Schadt, RN, is devoted to providing Equine therapy to children and adults with physical and mental disabilities. Nickischer & Associates are proud to partner with Manito Life Center. Together, our therapists in the Lehigh Valley offer psychotherapy services on-site at the Manito Equestrian Center in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

Equine Therapy Services Offered Include:

  • A girls empowerment group that consists of six sessions on-site at Manito Life Center. This very special program offers group Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) to girls ages 12-14. With a focus on team-building, open communication, and acceptance, girls learn the important skills of assertiveness, personal boundary-setting, and the gift of courage. This program is taught by Jennifer Lomastro, Lead Riding Instructor at Manito Equestrian Center, Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor, and Certified Equine Specialist in Mental Health and Learning; Kathryn Nickischer Friel, LPC, and Rachel Little, LCSW.

  • Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy. Take your therapy session on the road and explore how nature and the gentle presence of horses can assist you on the path to healing. Whether you are struggling with a trauma history or feeling disconnected due to chronic stress, an on-site horse therapy session at the barn is always a lesson in mindfulness. Being horseback is not a requirement for these sessions, and in fact, many clients find that grooming a horse while talking or just being in the presence of a horse can assist them in feeling revived and reconnected. Additional ground exercises with equine partners may be utilized to help clients achieve their personal goals in a unique way.
